Iqra: Why a Muslim Woman in Tech Was Never a Contradiction

The first word revealed was not “obey.” It was “Read.” A short history lesson for anyone who thinks hijab and a server room don’t mix.

I’ve walked into server rooms where people were surprised to see a woman in an abaya holding the admin password. The surprise says more about the last hundred years than the last fourteen hundred.

اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ“Read in the name of your Lord who created.”Surah Al-ʿAlaq 96:1

The very first command of revelation was to read. Not for men only — for the whole ummah.

The women who built before us

Your faith is not something you leave at the door of a technical career. For many of us, it’s the reason we walked through it.
